The Wanderers No. 1 — Rest & Relaxation
There are times when the world feels like too much. This past period, my personal life turned inside out and this sculpture was made while bouncing back. It's an escape into something brighter, more playful and more free. In difficult times, my creativity and imagination drag me through the darkest moments, literally adding color and possibility to my life.
Rest & Relaxation is the first in The Wanderers, a series of one-of-a-kind camper sculptures. Each one is a small world unto itself, designed in 3D software, digitally unfolded, and cut by plotter from hand-painted, acid-free watercolor paper. The pieces are assembled by hand with bookbinding glue, detail by detail, over many hours.
The result is an object that holds its ground quietly on a shelf or windowsill and then, when you look at it, takes you somewhere else for a moment. I like to see these moments as mini-holidays for the mind.
The title is borrowed in spirit from Ottessa Moshfegh's novel. Not the plot... just the longing for Rest and Relaxation, that inspired this dreamt-up vehicle.
One of a kind. Includes bell jar.
Dimensions: 22 × 32 × 41 cm / 8.7 × 12.6 × 16.1 in.
